The Getty Center Los Angeles
On our first Meetup, we will visit The Getty Center (one of the coolest places in LA) and visit two Conceptual Art Exhibits: "Evidence of Movement" and "Zoopsia: new works by Tim Hawkinson".

I've chosen these two exhibits in order to have a thematic focus for our visit. I would like nothing more than to explore the Getty Center in all it glory, but if you've ever been there before, you might have realized that its quite VAST and you couldn't possibly explore the entire complex in one day. Counting the permanent exhibits, the changing exhibits, the research exhibits, the gardens, the architectural tours, the outdoor sculptures, the library, the restaurants, the gift shop... this is a place you have to take in a little bit a at a time on each visit. But I PROMISE we'll go back and explore more!

DETAILS OF OUR VISIT:

***This is a members only event, if you would like to attend, please register with this Meetup group, thanks for your support!

> For those of you who are new to the Getty, admission is free but parking is $8.00. The parking lots are on the lower lever of the hill and from here, you need to get on a tram that will take you up the hill. ***Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow for parking and tram. For maps, directions and parking info visit : http://www.getty.edu/visit/hours/

> At 1:00 p.m we will meet at the Arrival Plaza, which is where the tram drops you off. I'll most likely by by the trees that are in the center of the plaza holding up a sign that says Meetup. For a site plan, please visit: http://www.getty.edu/visit/hours/map.html

> Once we have all arrived, we will relocate to another area TBD and begin our "meet and greet" maybe at a cafe over coffee.

> 2:00 pm - We will make our way over to view these two current exhibits: "Evidence of Movement" and "Zoopsia: new works by Tim Hawkinson" For more information on these exhibits visit: http://www.getty.edu/visit/exhibitions/

> If we have time after the exhibits and some people want to hang out, we will make our way over to the Central Garden, perhaps after grabbing a snack on the way or visiting the gift shop. We will stay no later than 6:00 p.m since the Getty closes at that time.

Personally, I'm really excited about the Tim Hawkinson exhibit, I'm a huge fan of his work. If you are unfamiliar with him, I PROMISE you will have an unbelievable experience. One of America's most singular and inventive sculptors, Tim Hawkinson's art has been called slyly conceptual and a carnival sideshow, awe-inspiring and absurd.

For more info on Tim Hawkinson, visit: http://www.tfaoi.com/aa/4aa/4aa590.htm

FINAL NOTES:

> If you are running late or need help please call me at 323-251-2913. Please use this number to call me ONLY on the day of the event, otherwise please contact through Meetup.

> Please print out the site map of the Getty and bring it with you in case you need to find our group. You can find a site map below.
http://www.getty.edu/visit/hours/map.html

> Lastly, please do not flake out. I have put in a considerable amount of effort organizing this event and there is nothing more annoying than waiting around for someone who RSVP'd but decided to not show up without cancelling. Thanks for your understanding.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Best,

Lia
